Use this guide to manage a subscription billed through Apple, find one that is missing, or investigate an Apple charge you do not recognize.

How do you manage Apple subscriptions on an iPhone or iPad?

The Subscriptions screen on an iPhone showing active plans with renewal and expiration dates
Subscriptions lists active plans and shows when each one renews or expires.

An iPhone or iPad provides the easiest method:

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap a subscription to see its renewal date, change the plan, or cancel it.

If there is no Cancel Subscription button, or you see an expiration date in red, the subscription is already canceled. You can keep using it until that date.

If you do not want a free or discounted trial to renew, Apple recommends canceling at least 24 hours before the trial ends. You can often cancel as soon as you subscribe and continue using the app until the expiration date shown in Subscriptions. That is useful for trials or apps you only need briefly, but check the date after canceling because access terms can vary.

How do you manage Apple subscriptions on a Mac?

  1. Open the App Store and click your name. If you do not see it, click Sign In.
  2. Click Account Settings.
  3. Scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage.
  4. Click the subscription you want to change or cancel.

You can also manage subscriptions online at account.apple.com.

Can’t find a subscription?

If you cannot find the subscription, search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple.” The receipt shows which Apple Account was used.

  • A family member bought it: The family member whose Apple Account appears on the receipt must cancel it. You cannot cancel another family member’s subscription from your account.
  • You used another Apple Account: Sign in with the account shown on the receipt and check its subscriptions.
  • Another company bills you: Some subscriptions are purchased directly from services such as Netflix, Spotify, or The New York Times. Check your bank or credit-card statement and cancel through the company collecting the payment.

Where are iCloud+ and AppleCare?

  • iCloud+: On a current iPhone or iPad, find it under Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. On a Mac running macOS Tahoe, go to System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Plan. Before reducing your storage, make sure your data fits within the new limit. Otherwise, iCloud will stop syncing new information, and backups will not finish. For more context, see my plain-English guide to iCloud.
  • AppleCare: A monthly or annual plan billed by Apple may appear under Subscriptions. If it does not, use Apple’s AppleCare cancellation guide. Plans paid in full or purchased from another company can have different cancellation steps.

What if you do not recognize an Apple charge?

  1. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com and search for the amount on your statement. Apple sometimes groups several purchases into one charge.
  2. Ask members of your Family Sharing group and check any other Apple Accounts you use.
  3. If nobody recognizes the purchase, change your Apple Account password and use Apple’s options to report it or request a refund.

I recommend reviewing your subscriptions every few months. If you have multiple Apple Accounts or cannot identify a charge, I can help during a one-on-one session in San Francisco, Washington DC, or over Zoom. Book a session.
