For better

If you never use swipe typing (where you slide your finger across letters, only lifting your finger between words), turning it off can make standard tap typing feel more predictable with fewer autocorrect errors. This method of typing was popularized years ago with the Swype keyboard. When Apple added the feature in iOS 13, it was turned on by default.

If you use this feature, please keep it on. But if you don’t type this way, you should turn it off.

Why this can help

Even when you mean to tap, a tiny drag between letters can be interpreted as swipe input. That can lead to weird word substitutions and more backspacing. Turning it off removes one extra “guessing mode.”

How to turn it off

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap General

  3. Tap Keyboard

  4. Turn Slide to Type off

Shortcut: Press and hold the emoji or globe key on the keyboard, then tap Keyboard Settings to jump to the same screen.
