Apple Watch has a function that allows you to quickly call 911 or the appropriate local emergency services. And after your call is finished all of your designated emergency contacts in your iPhone Health app are alerted by text. A user on Reddit recently told a story that shows just how useful this was when he was in a car accident and didn't know where his phone landed. The original 2016 firm-press cancellation is historical. On current watchOS, press and hold the side button until the Emergency Call slider appears. Drag the slider to call immediately, or keep holding the side button to call after a countdown. If you start the countdown accidentally, release the side button before it finishes. If the call has been made, stay on the line and tell the responder that you do not need help. A voice call needs a cellular connection or Wi-Fi calling with an internet connection from your Watch or a nearby iPhone. A GPS + Cellular Watch can call without a nearby iPhone where cellular service is available, but network support, compatibility, activation, and setup can affect emergency calling. Emergency SOS via satellite is a separate option for texting for help on Apple Watch Ultra 3 or later when cellular and Wi-Fi coverage are unavailable. It requires supported software, a supported country or region, and a satellite connection outdoors with a clear view of the sky and horizon. The Watch should be dry, and purchase-region restrictions apply. Check Apple's current satellite requirements and availability before relying on it. For full details on calling, see Apple's Emergency SOS instructions.
