Apple releases security updates for older software
You may have missed this in the excitement about iOS 26 and macOS 26 Tahoe getting released today, but Apple also released many security updates for older software. These are for people who aren’t ready to jump on the latest software just yet, or have devices that can’t update to the latest. Apple generally releases security updates for two years after an OS has been superseded by a new version.
Today’s updates to older software include:
macOS 15.7 Sequoia
macOS 14.8 Sonoma
iOS 18.7
iPadOS 18.7
iOS 16.7.12
iOS 15.8.5
To update, go to the Settings app > General > Software Update.
On macOS, if you are eligible to upgrade to the latest version but don’t want to yet, you can find this security patch near the bottom of the update screen below the offer to upgrade to macOS Tahoe. You may need to scroll down to see it. On iPad and iPhone, they will usually do the reverse for the first week or two and then flip their position later.
