iOS 8.4 released, introducing Apple Music subscription service
Today Apple released iOS 8.4. In addition to the standard bug and security fixes, this release introduces Apple's revamped music player and new music subscription service, "Apple Music". Apple Music is the successor to Beats Music and competitor to services such as Spotify and Rdio. Unlike internet radio services such as Pandora and iTunes Radio (now Apple Music Radio), these subscription services allow you to download and listen to virtually any song or album on demand or even to build custom playlists from music that you subscribe to instead of own. So instead of purchasing music á la carte you simply pay an all-you-can eat fee to access nearly the entire iTunes music catalog (depending on Apple's contract with each record label). Apple Music differentiates themselves from the competition by using humans to curate playlists rather than algorithms.Apple music is free for the first three months then $9.99 per month or $14.99 for everyone in your iCloud family.Of course, you are free to continue to purchase music through the iTunes store or import your music from your iTunes library or iTunes Match, just as you always have. This is simply an additional option for people who view music as a service rather than as a collection. To update connect to WiFi and go to Settings > General > Software Update. If you don't have enough storage available on your iPhone you will need to free up space or upgrade the old fashioned way using a cable and iTunes on your computer.
