Apple releases iOS 26.1, macOS 26.1, and more

Today, Apple released the 26.1 update for all devices. This is the first major bug fix update since Apple released the annual software upgrades last month.

If you’ve already upgraded to 26, I recommend installing these updates right away, as they include a lot of bug fixes and refinements. If you have not upgraded to 26, it’s something I’m more comfortable generally recommending for early adopters and for people who don’t have any specialized software. Especially for iPhone and iPad. On your Mac, if you basically just use Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Office, and Adobe, it’s probably safe for you to upgrade.

Today’s software adds the following features:

  • Apple Intelligence is now available in Chinese (traditional), Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

  • Live Translation is now available in Mandarin (traditional & simplified), Italian, Japanese, and Korean.

  • Liquid Glass has had some tweaks to make things more consistent and legible.

  • New adjustments for Liquid Glass allow you to switch between the original “clear” mode and “tinted”

  • Slide to turn off alarms makes it more difficult to accidentally turn off an alarm in your sleep.

  • New option to disable camera on lock screen swipe left useful for those who have newer models with a Camera Control button.

  • An option to disable the new iOS 26 vibration when a phone call is connected and disconnected.

  • Apple Music AutoMix now works when using AirPlay

  • Slideover makes a return to iPad. It was missing in the initial release of iPadOS 26.

  • “Display Borders” setting in Accessibility makes it easier to see buttons and other screen elements, and may be a good alternative to high contrast.

Along with those features, Apple has tuned the performance, reliability, and battery life of all devices. And security problems have been addressed.

The software versions released today are:

  • iOS 26.1

  • iPadOS 26.1

  • macOS 26.1 Tahoe

  • watchOS 26.1

  • tvOS 26.1

  • visionOS 26.1

  • HomePod OS 26.1

Additionally, Apple released some updates for older software:

  • macOS 15.7.2 Sequoia

  • macOS 14.8.2 Sonoma

To update your software, go to the Settings app > General > Software Update.
