Apple releases iOS 17.5, macOS 14.5, more
Today Apple released system updates for pretty much all of their system software (except for visionOS 1.2 which is still in beta and will probably be out soon as well). These updates are short on features as we are getting toward the end of the update year. Apple is turning their attention toward iOS 18 and macOS 15 which will be unveiled in June. But we are still getting a few little improvements. Apart from the standard bug, performance, and security updates, these updates include:
- The ability to install iOS apps from the web (EU only)
- More dynamic Podcast widget
- New Quartiles game in Apple News+
- Offline mode for Apple News+ auto-downloads tops stories
- Alerts when a third-party Bluetooth tracker such as a Tile or Chipolo may be following you
The updates released today are:
- iOS 17.5
- iPadOS 17.5
- watchOS 10.5
- tvOS 17.5
- HomePod 17.5
- macOS 14.5
- macOS 13.6.7 Ventura
- macOS 12.7.5 Monterey
- iOS and iPadOS 16.7.8 (only for decives unable to run iOS 17)
It appears that iOS 15 did not get a security patch. It's unclear if the security fixes today don't affect iOS 15 or if iOS 15 is simply no longer getting updates, as Apple never announces end-of-life for software.
