Tabs for Finder in OS X Mavericks

OS X 10.9 Mavericks brings tabbed windows to the Finder. They work in much the same way as tabs in your browser, allowing you to keep your windows uncluttered while browsing several folders.

You can open a new Finder tab in any of these ways:

  • Press Command-T
  • Choose “New Tab” from the File menu
  • Double-click a folder while holding the Command key
  • Right-click a folder and choose “Open in New Tab”

Just as with Safari, Firefox, and Chrome you can drag and drop tabs between windows, drag tabs off the window to move it to its own window, or drag them to rearrange them within the same window. You can also drag files onto a tab to move them into that folder.
