Set Finder’s default folder in Mac OS X

Default Finder window

Beginning with Lion or Mountain Lion, the default folder when you open a new Finder window has been “All My Files” which simply shows a search of all of your documents. Personally I find this useless since I have so many files. However, it’s easy to change the default folder to something like your Home folder or your Documents folder. While in Finder, go to the Finder menu and choose Preferences. On the General tab you’ll see an option for “New Finder windows show:” Choose your desired folder from drop down menu..
