As a courtesy to my clients, I offer a proactive support tool that runs periodic tests to find common system health problems such as failing hard drives, memory errors, malware, and failed backups. If there is anything of concern I am alerted and I’ll reach out to you to discuss appropriate action. It also includes quick links to my website, blog, appointment booking page, and some other useful tools.

It should only take a minute or two to build. If it gets stuck for longer than that use the “back” arrow in your browser and try the download again.

If you try to install it and it says that it can’t be checked for malware, wait 5 minutes and try installing again. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to register with Apple’s malware checking system.

Privacy

This is NOT remote management and doesn’t allow me to change anything or see any personal information apart from things like the serial number, model of your computer, and the last date and time the computer was connected to the internet (but not location). If you are concerned about the details of the information that I see, here is a complete copy of the report from my own personal Mac.

Cost

This is free for clients who I see at least every year or two.

Install

Download and launch the installer to begin. It might take up to an hour after installation for the umbrella icon to appear in your menu bar. There is nothing else for you to do; the program will automatically submit a report, and will update me if it finds any changes.

Uninstall

If you wish to uninstall it you can, though I strongly encourage all of my clients to keep it on their systems because it allows me to provide the best quality of service to you.

  1. Click the Apple menu
  2. Click “System Preferences”
  3. Click “JimmyMac Proactive Support” (probably on the bottom row)
  4. Click the “Operation” tab
  5. Click the padlock in the bottom left corner
  6. Enter your computer login password
  7. Click “Uninstall Client…”

It may take up to an hour for the software to completely uninstall. On its next hourly report, it will de-register from my system.
