For years many people who have switched from Windows to Mac have been driven crazy by Finder’s insistence in showing all of your folders mixed in with your file in alphabetical order. I know a lot of people who prepend their folder names with an underscore or other special character to keep them at the top of the alphabetical list. No need anymore! On macOS Sierra you can now show folders first when viewing in alpha order.
- Open a Finder window
- Click the Finder menu (next to the Apple icon in the top left corner)
- Click “Preferences”
- Click the “Advanced” gear tab
- Tick the last checkbox “Keep folders on top when sorting by name”
