Today Apple released their big annual upgrade for the Mac. In keeping with their naming convention of places in California, macOS 12 is named Monterey. There are dozens if not hundreds of tiny new features as well as a few big ones. If you’ve updated to iOS 15 you’ll find many of the new features to be familiar. Live Text, Focus, and Shortcuts are among them.
Apple has published their full list of new features in macOS Monterey.
Before upgrading make sure that your Time Machine backup is up-to-date. And check to see that any apps you depend on are compatible. You can check with Roaring Apps or the support, FaceBook, or Twitter pages for the software developer. To begin click the Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update. If your Mac is compatible the upgrade will appear here. If you do not wish to upgrade just yet, that screen may offer other updates as well.
