FaceTime and FaceTime Audio are great features that allow you to make phone and video calls over WiFi instead of over the phone system. It works very similarly to Skype except all you need is the call recipient’s iPhone number or Apple ID. People who call or travel internationally are especially thankful for this feature, as it allows them to easily make calls without using roaming minutes or without international call fees.
However, not everyone has unlimited data with their plans, so many people wonder how much data is being consumed. iOS 8 now reports that data in your call history. Simply open your call history, either in your FaceTime app or in your Phone app and tap the encircled ‘i’ information icon.
My hour-long audio call was only 40 MB. Not too bad. A video call would be significantly more, though.
