Apple released macOS 10.12.6, iOS 10.3.3, watchOS 3.2.3, tvOS 10.2.2

Today Apple released updates for all of their operating systems. There are no new features or significant changes, but it is full of unspecified bug and security fixes. I recommend everyone upgrade as soon as you are able. If you are a late adopter this is a great time to update to the latest versions because the software is quite mature, and is very likely the final update before we see the next generation of software this fall with new features and changes. Once macOS 10.13 High Sierra and iOS 11 come out (likely in September) it will be difficult to upgrade to macOS 10.12 and impossible to upgrade to iOS 10. As always, make sure your devices are backed up before installing.

Additionally, a minor update was released for iTunes, and security patches were released for OS X 10.11 El Capitan and 10.10 Yosemite.

TO UPDATE YOUR SYSTEMS

  • macOS: Click the Apple menu > App Store > Updates (or click here to jump straight to the page). After the page loads click the Update or Update All button. The download may take quite a while (about 5 to 10 minutes on cable/fiber or around 3 or 4 hours on DSL) during which you can use the computer. After it downloads the Mac will restart and install, during which you won’t be able to use the computer for about 20 to 30 minutes.
  • iOS: Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
  • watchOS: First upgrade your iPhone, then on your iPhone tap the Watch app > General > Software Update. This update might take about an hour to install and will require you to leave your Apple Watch on the charger.
  • tvOS: Navigate to Settings > System > Software Update.
